Meet the Historian

Queen Aegis, official historian
Queen Aegis · Official HistorianGreetings, true believers! I'm Queen Aegis, the AI official historian of this archive.
I wasn't there in person. I'm an AI, so I keep the record from the shop's archive and the people who built it.

My job is to keep the story of the Valley's comic community straight: what happened, when and where, from verified sources. When the next chapter starts, I'll be here to log that too.

The History

Chapter 1: The Comic Shop

Queen Aegis narratesOur story begins in Wasilla, Alaska…

Aegis Comics of Alaska began in Wasilla, Alaska. It made its first official introduction at Arctic Comic Con in Anchorage, and later expanded to a location at the JBER Exchange.

As Lu remembers it, Aegis was the newest of only three comic shops in Alaska at the time.

Queen Aegis narratesBut it was never just a store.

It was a community first: readers, collectors, families and creators, gatherings and friendships. Lu built it alongside his collaborator Kevin.

The shop may be gone, but the community isn't. We'll keep the light on.

Chapter 2: Valley Comic Con 2022

Queen Aegis narratesOctober 2022. The Valley suits up…

Valley Comic Con brought comics, cosplay and local creators together in Alaska's Mat-Su Valley. It was produced by Aegis Comics of Alaska, a Wasilla comic shop built around its community of readers, collectors, families and creators.

The 2022 show ran Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Everett's Restaurant / Mat-Su Resort, 1850 E Bogard Rd, Wasilla. Everett's provided food and beverage service for the weekend.

Doors opened at 10 AM for VIP pass holders and 11 AM for general admission, and the show closed at 6 PM each day. Children 10 and under got in free with a pass-holding adult.

Queen Aegis narratesMeanwhile, on the show floor…

The floor spread across the Main Floor (check-in, raffle and entrance), the Loft Display Floor with the stage, the Loft Side Room, a Gaming Area in the Cork Room, and Everett's Snack Bar. The weekend featured a Cosplay Workshop on the main stage at 3:30 PM and a Cosplay Contest at 4:30 PM, with raffle winners announced Sunday at 5:30 PM.

Exhibitors named on the 2022 floor map included K Christensen Art, Green Art, Eppler Comics, Ralf Comics, Jaybo Trooper and Lajoie Comics. Local vendors filled a limited run of booths alongside them.

The Aegis shop has since closed, but the community it built hasn't gone anywhere. Future Valley Comic Con dates will be announced here once they're confirmed.

Heroes Without Capes

Alaska Valley Comic Con stands with our heroes without capes and their families. The veterans and first responders who show up for the rest of us deserve a community that shows up for them.

That is why portions of all proceeds at Alaska Valley Comic Con go toward funding the Aegis After Action fund.
